Update

As you may have noticed, the newsletter didn’t go out three of the last four weeks.  Part of the reason is that I have been extremely busy, but it isn’t as though I haven’t been busy in the past seven and a half years, and yet I only missed sending it once during that time (not counting the two scheduled weeks off at the end of each year).

So what was it?  Frankly, I’ve written most of what I know about life insurance.  Actually, there is a lot that I know that I haven’t written about, but much of it is technical minutia that wouldn’t be interesting to a wide audience.  I’ve also written about tangential financial topics such as saving, taxes, IRAs, 401(k)s, and wills, as well as different aspects of human behavior.  And it seems to me that I’m running out of relevant things to say.

When I started writing these missives in November of 2013, I had no idea it would last this long.  I started by just typing them into my email program.  Then a client designed the current format in Constant Contact (thanks, Nils!) and that made a definite impact.  Several of you commented on the increased ease of readability.

I will continue to write the newsletter, just not every week.  Certainly, whenever there is news that affects life insurance, I will have something to say (like Biden’s anticipated rollback of the estate tax exemption to pre-Trump levels).  And I will continue to champion the cause of life insurance.

Part of my effort has been to expose the fallacy of what much of the mainstream media writes about life insurance.  Their objective isn’t to educate, but rather to sell their product.  While I am obviously in the business of selling life insurance, my goal with the newsletter is to educate, believing in the Sy Syms mantra of “An educated consumer is our best customer.”

So while this isn’t a goodbye, it is a signal that things will be different moving forward.  I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of you for reading and commenting.  You have made the journey enjoyable for me; I hope I have done the same for you.
